How to Get Your Build Featured

July 8, 2020

What Makes a Photo Good?

We want to see your truck featured across our social media pages, on our website, and used for vehicle features! How exactly can you make that happen? ARKON is constantly looking for quality content to push the brand in a high end, professional manner.

Keep in mind that creative style can be seen by different people in different ways, however, listed below are some baseline standards that everyone can follow.

The Equipment Matters.

People can take great iPhone photos, and people can take subpar DSLR camera photos, sometimes lighting and a good eye is all that matters! If you're going to be taking photos, or have someone in mind to take photos, double-check that the equipment used is close to matching the below specs.

1. Professional DSLR camera (preferably full frame)

2. Various lenses used (ex: 24-70mm, 50mm, 85mm)

3. Results should be high resolution images (around 4000px x 6000px)

Find a location.

You don't need to be in the middle of a mountain range or in front of the White House for it to be a sweet location. Sometimes a field at sunset or the abandoned warehouse down the road makes for a cool backdrop. A location shouldn't distract from your subject but should add to the photo to create a theme for that photo set. See a couple of examples below:

Find your best angles.

Taking time to plan out shots will yield better results. Below is a list of the standard angles to grab while shooting. All of these angles are also listed when you Add Your Truck to the ARKON Gallery! The front 3/4 angle is your money shot, that's the best way to get a good look at the whole build, see your front end and side of the truck, and see your stance too.

Don't just focus on your truck either, make sure to take a step back and enjoy the scenery. Snap a couple of Landscape photos that show off your truck, but also bring the surroundings into focus.

A helpful tip: Crouching down while taking photos will also make your truck look BIGGER and more aggressive. It's all about angles, who knew trigonometry class would actually come in handy!

Portrait vs Landscape

Last, but not least: The Editing.

We don't expect you to download Photoshop and edit your truck photos like you're getting ready for a magazine feature, but here are some things to note:

Less is more. When "editing" photos to send in, sometimes an Instagram filter isn't the best route. Receiving a photo that's already edited makes it hard to color correct and change much in the image. If we need the photo colored a certain way to match our website, it becomes difficult when it's already colorized with a certain tone or "feel" to the image.

Don't take away from the photo with over-editing. If you found a sweet location and have good lighting, chances are your photo probably doesn't need much editing anyways!
